Rebuilding Together: A Traveler's Guide to Asheville's Re-opening

Dear Friends,

As we welcome you back to the beautiful Asheville and WNC area, we invite you to join us in lifting up our local community, which has shown such remarkable resilience after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The path to recovery is ongoing, and by visiting and supporting us, you play a vital role in this process. Together, we can help our community thrive once again.

Travel Planning

Nothing exemplifies our tenacity and desire to re-open more than the Biltmore Estate re-opening November 2nd. With that in mind, we've developed a comprehensive Post-Helene Travel Planning page that lists what's open and where by the Arts, Scenic Drives, Food & Beverage, Arts and by month.

Supporting your favorite tour hosts: Bed and Breakfasts

The Asheville Bed and Breakfast Association comprises 16 unique, independently-owned inns throughout Asheville, Waynesville, Weaverville, and beyond. • Stay at local member Bed and Breakfast:  We are maintaining a current updated list of members ready to greet you and can provide helpful recommendations for your stay Click here to view the list.

  • Take advantage of specials: Open Inns are also offering great rates for first responders and volunteers and also offering enhanced packages. Click here to view all specials.

  • Future Visits: Of course, you can purchase a gift certificate for a future stay. Check out our One Stop Inn Shop with all gift certificate links.

Thoughtful Travel Tips to Enhance Your Visit

We encourage you to embrace thoughtful travel during your stay. The Asheville area is currently navigating changes, but it's this very adaptability and unyielding spirit that exemplify the heart of our community. As your hosts, we want you to fully appreciate the beauty of our region while being mindful of the challenges our local residents and business owners face.

Here are some heartfelt suggestions to guide your visit:

  • Support Local Businesses: Many establishments are re-opening, and they need your patronage now more than ever. We’ve created a regularly updated resource showcasing open businesses and activities within a 30-minute drive of Asheville. Click here to explore.

  • Explore Day Trips: If you’re in towns like Black Mountain, Weaverville, or Waynesville, take the opportunity to enjoy the stunning fall foliage, delightful holiday shopping, and the rich arts and dining scene. Click here to view the list

  • Be Patient and Flexible: Many businesses are re-establishing themselves, which may mean limited menus or adjusted hours. Your understanding is greatly appreciated as our community bounces back.

  • Stay Informed: Please check your route before traveling. While Google may show “essential travel” notices, it simply means some roads might still be affected. Rest assured, your innkeeper will provide you with up-to-date information on clear routes.

  • Consider Bringing Supply Donations: As you pack, think about contributing items like food, winter clothing, or propane heaters to aid local recovery efforts. Organizations such as Manna Food Bank and ABCCM have updated lists of needed donations.

Despite the challenges, Asheville and our surrounding towns remain breathtakingly beautiful. You may notice some debris and restricted areas, but the spirit of community and kindness permeates our beloved region.

Finally, we hope you arrive with a smile and an open heart, ready to connect with our community and experience the warmth of our hospitality.

Ways to Volunteer

Many guests have asked about opportunities to volunteer during their stay or while visiting family and friends during this upcoming holiday season. The easiest way to volunteer without having to plan or go through extensive training is to visit Hands on Asheville website and click on the volunteer now button. It will easily walk you through volunteer opportunities that are available that day or later.

For those that specifically wish to volunteer in food related cooking or distribution, visit World Central Kitchen volunteer hub, create a profile and you will be walked through the process of finding and selecting places and times where you can volunteer.

Thank you for being a considerate traveler and supporting our community. We look forward to welcoming you with open arms and sharing the unique charm of Asheville with you.

Warm regards,

The Asheville Bed and Breakfast Association and Members
