Weaverville, North Carolina B&Bs
Weaverville, a town of 3000 residents just 10 minutes north of Asheville, shares Asheville’s cosmopolitan vibe, but with a small-town charm and pace. Formerly a college town and summer destination in the era of grand Victorian hotels, Weaverville is best known now as an arts and B&B destination. The town’s bed and breakfasts are two blocks from a business district that includes several galleries and quaint eateries. On weekends, most of the cafes offer live music. Weaverville and Barnardsville ( little further up the road), are base camp for outdoor activities clustered north of Asheville, such as Navitat canopy tours, whitewater rafting, snow skiing at Wolf Laurel, trout fishing and mineral baths at Hot Springs, NC. The Reems Creek Valley, where Weaverville is located, was one of the first settlements in former Cherokee territory, and is the birthplace of North Carolina’s charismatic Civil War governor, Zebulon Vance. The Vance birthplace regularly hosts troop re-enactments and demonstrations of pioneer activities. At the top of the Reems Creek Valley is an entrance onto the Blue Ridge Parkway at Bull Gap.
