Asheville is a beautiful place to gather for a celebration, and our experience shows people come from across the world to visit our mountains and enjoy the hospitality at Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association Inns. One of our favorite events every summer is when the world comes to us at the annual Folkmoot Festival. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Folkmoot is bringing performers from Chinese Taipei, Colombia, Hawaii, USA, Romania, Russia, Trinidad, Turkey, along with groups representing Appalachian and Cherokee cultures to celebrate their folk dance and music traditions. Performers welcome interaction with the public before and after performances to share their cultural heritage.
Folkmoot is an old English word meaning “meeting of the people”. The festival’s founder, Dr. Clinton Border, borrowed the name from a folk festival once held in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Folkmoot hosts a new slate of performances every year, and has hosted over 100 countries during its history. It’s definitely worth a repeat visit, so mark your calendars for next year too! The festival this year is held July 18-27th and is based in Waynesville, about 25 miles west of Asheville, but performances over the 2 week period will be held in surrounding cities, including Asheville. You can view the schedule and buy tickets at their website, www.folkmootusa.org, or call their ticket office at 828.452.2997.
Whether you come from nearby or a great distance, our innkeepers offer a gracious welcome and world-class hospitality. We look forward to your next visit.
