Downtown After 5 2015

May 4th, 2015 by Chris Sparks

The festival season is in full swing here in Asheville and there’s something for everyone. A community favorite for nearly 30 years now is Downtown After 5. This series of free live music concerts happens every 3rd Friday of the month May through September from 5-9 pm. The concerts are produced by the Asheville Downtown Association, a nonprofit organization committed to the preservation and improvement of the central business district. Of course, they hold the concert downtown on Lexington Avenue next to the gorgeous murals under the I-240 bridge. Food trucks offer a nice variety of fresh food, and beer and wine is available for purchase, with a variety of local and regional options. To purchase alcohol, attendees will need to show a valid picture ID and buy a $2 wristband. Proceeds from wristband sales will support a nonprofit organization.
It’s also worth mentioning that Asheville Downtown Association takes pride in its commitment to reducing its impact on the environment and the concert series features a solar stage, complimentary bike corral, compostable food and beverage containers, and staffed recycling and compost bins. Since implementing its greening initiative, the event has reduced the number of bags headed to the landfill to just a handful.
The lineup of musicians this year is fabulous, and well worth a trip to Asheville. Check out the lineup here. Zydeco, blues & reggae, soul, bluegrass and more are represented. And the series wouldn’t be complete without a showing from the Asheville All Stars. It’s a great night out, and it wouldn’t be complete without returning to your Asheville Area Bed & Breakfast Association Inn for a great night’s rest. We look forward to seeing you soon.
