Flowers and the Biltmore

Flowers and the Biltmore

If you are planning to stay with one of our Asheville Bed and Breakfast Inns this spring, then you’ll want to consider a day excursion to the Biltmore Estate. Biltmore’s gardens were designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and the variety and number of flowering trees, shrubs and flower beds is stunning.

Biltmore Blooms with a Festival of Flowers will run until May 31, 2013. You will be surrounded by everything from enormous wisteria vines, innumerable tulips, pansies, azaleas to so much more. If you have a green thumb or need inspiration, this is a must see when visiting Asheville.

A new display, The Vanderbilts at Home and Abroad, opens at Biltmore on April 7. The exhibit takes center stage in Antler Hill Village’s Legacy building and showcases items from the Vanderbilt’s personal collection. Included in this exhibit are Samurai armor and an intricate Cartier vanity and a lipstick case encrusted with diamonds and jade. An early Harley-Davidson motorcycle will also be on display.  The family’s love of motorized transportation was unmatched by anyone during that time. You will also learn how the Vanderbilts were saved from going on the Titanic. Very enjoyable for history buffs.

Winter Sports in Asheville

November 19th, 2012 by Asheville BBA

Winter sports are a great way to enjoy the beauty of Asheville. From snow-tubing ,skiing and snowboarding to ziplining or hiking, the innkeepers at Asheville Bed & Breakfasts Association  know all the best ways to take advantage of the weather. Hiking trails offer better views without leaves blocking the way, and the sounds of splashing waterfalls or river rapids travel farther. If you prefer the snow slopes to a trail, the Asheville area is within an hour or two of a variety of options, including some of the highest peaks east of the Mississippi with elevations of 5,500 feet. When you’re ready to warm up and relax after a day of adventure in the cold, your Bed & Breakfast will have all the amenities to restore you for the next day.

Asheville has a ski club if you would like to meet some local skiers.
