What Is The Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association?

September 1st, 2015 by Susan Murray

It’s the best choice for a place to stay in all of Asheville!

If you’ve gotten this far, chances are you have spent a fair amount of time on our website. You probably know that the Association is a group of 16 inns in Asheville, North Carolina. But what does that mean? And, more importantly, what does it mean for you and other visitors to Asheville?

ABBA_logo-small-218x185An Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association (ABBA) inn will be a safe and comfortable choice for your visit to our city. As members of the Association, all of our inns are dedicated to providing high quality accommodations for guests. In addition to semi-annual state required health inspections, all Association inns are inspected for safety and appearance on a bi-annual basis. These inspections are to a higher standard than that required by law.

But what else can you expect?

A lot. Our Asheville B&B’s are special because they are about people: the people who run them and making the people who stay at them happy.

Let’s start with the Innkeepers.

As members of ABBA, we get to know and like each other. While we are competitors, is is co-operative competition. That means that if I am full, I will do my best to help you find an inn to accommodate you. And you can be sure that it will be an inn of comparable quality (see above). At the same time, because all of our inns are unique, you have a better chance of finding the inn that best suits you. We have inns which welcome children with open arms (and high chairs) and we have inns which cater to those looking for an escape from children (sweet though they may be). We have pet-friendly inns, inns with owner’s pets and inns which are completely pet-free. We have Victorian Style Inns, Arts & Crafts Style Inns, Southern Mansions, inns in town, inns in the mountains, inns with cabins, fireplaces, fire-pits, front porches, gardens, Spa’s and spa services, wedding and elopement facilities and more. Our inns have been created by our innkeepers and each one reflects the interests and the talents of the owners. Our innkeepers know each other and each other’s inns and we are dedicated to finding you the inn that best suits your needs!

Standards are high at all of our inns.

All rooms must have private baths. Linens and towels must be of a high quality and basic amenities provided. Inns must be well maintained and clean. And every inn must provide a good quality breakfast. We like to say that, in Asheville, food begins with breakfast. And what wonderful breakfasts we serve. Check the reviews for any of our inns and you are almost certain to find mention of mouth-watering dishes. (Most hotels don’t get raves about the “included” breakfasts they offer). Cookies are practically required but not the end of the road for many of our innkeepers. You can’t keep us pinned to just breakfast. Every inn is different, but the food will be special where-ever you stay.

Of course, all of the above is to be expected at any high quality lodging. What does the Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association do that is unexpected?

Our innkeepers are locals, with close ties to our community, which means we can offer our guests experiences which are not available through any other form of lodging in the Asheville area. Take a look at our ABBA Exclusives and you will find tours and opportunities which are collaborations with other small businesses in town and around Western North Carolina.

You will greeted by the Managing Director, have reserved seating, be offered drinks of your choice AND you can have a walk-on role in the production with the pictures to prove it to your friends.

ABBA_AddisonFarmsVineyard_CountrySidejpgIn the fall take a tour of Sandy Mush Valley, a beautiful valley still farmed by third and fourth generations.  You can picnic in a vineyard, visit with some of our most highly regarded craftspeople whose arts are nationally recognized (discounts included), visit farms and pick your own Fall produce, without fighting the crowds on the Blue Ridge Parkway and in downtown.  This tour was created by our innkeepers in conjunction with the small businesses of Sandy Mush–never happen in a hotel!  In addition, we know the restaurants, the chefs, the breweries, the music spots, the tours offered in town and out of town.  We know our town and are happy to give you advice to help you get the most out of our wonderful city.

From the minute you walk in the door of an Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association Inn until the day you say good-bye, you will be happy with your choice. An Asheville Bed and Breakfast is the best way to see Asheville and the Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association Inns are the best of the best!
