Asheville is home to more breweries per capita than any city in the US and is the center for craft brewing in the Southeast. There are tours, tastings, and events regularly, and there’s even cake and ice cream made with local brews. Asheville also celebrates beer with several festivals throughout the year, and the next one coming up is Brewgrass on September 20th. This one day event is hosted by the Great Smokies Craft Brewers Association and benefits Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Western North Carolina. There will be over 40 breweries and 120 beers represented. Not only will you be able to sample amazing beers all afternoon, you’ll hear world class bluegrass music from Fox Fire, Lost River Cavemen, Blue Highway, and Smoke from the Kitchen with Barry Waldrop. Tickets are $55, and the event has outgrown its old location and moved to Memorial Stadium at the edge of downtown. There’s all kinds of information about shuttles, parking, food and everything else you need to know at their website. You can purchase tickets there as well.
There’s no doubt you’ll find some new favorites at the festival, and the Innkeepers at your Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association will gladly direct you to their favorite local spots for picking up a growler or a 6 pack to take home. Invite your friends along and enjoy mountain hospitality and a perfect early fall day with Brewgrass. We look forward to seeing you soon.
