Perhaps the only thing sweeter than a night at an Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association inn is honey. With bee populations in trouble and the interest in beekeeping on the rise, the local Center for Honeybee Research offers its 2014 Beginners Bee School, March 1-2 at the Folk Art Center.
The two-day workshop covers everything a prospective or current beekeeper needs to know. Participants will learn about bees and their biology and behavior, the equipment and setup of an apiary, the costs involved, and the how-to’s of handling and managing bees through the seasons.
Admission for the entire weekend is $45 per person in advance and $55 at the door, space permitting. Proceeds from the School help support the Center’s work. The sessions run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Sunday. The Folk Art Center is located at Milepost 382 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, convenient to your favorite Asheville Bed & Breakfast Association inn.
